Text has no lighting, no voice, and no angle you have to manage, which is why so many trans women who are careful about where they show their face are perfectly happy typing. MtF chat is a search phrase more than an identity these days, but it lands people in the right room: the LGBTQ+ channel, free, anonymous, moderated by actual people. This page is written for trans women rather than for anyone browsing them. Pick a nickname and it is open.
MtF, transfem, trans woman: which word does what
Worth clearing up early, because the mismatch between what people search and what people say in the room confuses newcomers on both sides. MtF is the older clinical shorthand and it is still by a wide margin the most typed phrase, which is why this page carries it. Very few people in the room describe themselves that way in conversation. Most say trans woman, or transfem, or nothing at all, because they are talking about their evening rather than their transition.
Nobody will correct you for arriving with the old vocabulary. What the room does notice is the vocabulary aimed at other people. The terms this site does not host are the ones that were never neutral: the porn-category words and the slurs. They get someone removed rather than argued with, and that is not a politeness policy, it is a room-quality one. A channel that tolerates those words ends up with only the people who use them.
What the room is like when you are the one in it
The general trans chat page covers who is in the channel and how it runs. The thing it does not cover, because it is written for everyone, is what the evening actually feels like from the transfem side, which is worth saying plainly.
You will get more attention than you want and less of the kind you wanted. That is the honest summary, and it is not unique to this room. The volume is high, a meaningful chunk of it is people who have read one word of your nickname and formed an entire plan, and the good conversations are in there but they are not the loudest ones. Which means the skill worth having is filtering fast and without guilt. The /ignore command works instantly, you never owe an explanation for using it, and using it early is not rudeness, it is what makes a busy channel usable.
The second thing is that you get to set the terms of your own body in a way that no other format allows. There is no photo doing the talking before you do. You describe yourself, in your words, and the other person either works from that description or reveals immediately that they were not listening. That is a genuinely rare advantage and it is worth using deliberately rather than waiting to be asked.
Admirer or chaser, and how to tell in three messages
Being specifically attracted to trans women is not the problem and never has been. The room is full of people who are, some of them cis, plenty of them not, and none of that needs defending. The distinction that matters is between someone who is attracted to a person and someone who is shopping a category, and it is usually visible almost immediately.
The tells are consistent. An admirer talks to you. A chaser talks about what you are: opens with questions about surgery, hormones, or what is between your legs before a conversation has started, uses porn-site vocabulary and then acts surprised, asks for verification, wants to know your old name, or treats meeting you as a thing they are trying out. The reliable test is what happens after you give them your words for your own body. Someone who picks them up and keeps using them without a reminder has passed. Someone who uses them once and drifts back has told you what the rest of the night looks like, cheaply and early.
None of that requires a confrontation. It requires you to stop replying, which the room fully supports. Anything past annoying goes to a moderator, and reports here are read by humans. The full standard is in the house rules.
The opening line that gets answered
The single most common complaint in any chat room is that nobody replies, and the most common cause is an opener that reads like a listing rather than a person. That applies here with an extra edge, because a lot of trans women arrive braced and write something defensive or clinical, and clinical does not get answered either.
What works is short and about you: who you are, what kind of night you are after, and the two or three words you want used. Not a disclosure, not a résumé, not a transition timeline. Something like the register you would use with someone you already liked. Saying t4t if that is what you want is read correctly here and needs no justification, and plenty of the best conversations in the channel are trans people writing with other trans people for exactly the reason you would expect: nobody spends the first ten minutes translating.
If the blank first message is the part that stalls you, chat openers has lines to steal and how to sext covers pacing. For the longer register, where a scene runs for hours with a setting and characters rather than quick lines, roleplay chat is the same crowd writing at a different speed.
Privacy, and why anonymity is the actual feature
Plenty of the people in this room are out in one part of their life and not in another, and for them a site that wants a profile is not a site they can use. Nothing here asks for an email, a phone number, a photo or an ID. You type a nickname and you are in, and nothing connects that nickname to anything else you do.
The corresponding discipline is worth keeping. Do not give out your workplace, your area, your other accounts or your face early, and preferably not late either. Assume anything you send can be screenshotted, because it can, and for some people in this channel being identified carries a cost well past embarrassment. Sexting safety goes through the general version, burner identity opsec covers keeping a chat identity properly separate, and if photos come into it at all, share what is yours to share. Anyone else's, a partner's or an ex's included, is a ban with no discussion.
The rest of the channel
The LGBTQ+ room is one room, not a set of segregated ones, which is deliberate. FtM chat covers the transmasculine side of the same channel, queer chat takes the wider angle, and lesbian chat, bi chat and gay chat all run alongside it with plenty of overlap. Everyone here is an adult and that is enforced. Say who you are, say what kind of night you want, and start typing.
